Koenigsegg Dark Matter Electric Motor

Koenigsegg’s Dark Matter electric motor is setting new benchmarks in high-performance propulsion, redefining what an automotive e-motor can be. Unveiled for use in the company’s four-seat hypercar, the Koenigsegg Gemera, the Dark Matter delivers an astonishing 800 hp (≈600 kW) and up to 1 250 Nm of torque from a remarkably compact and lightweight unit weighing just 39 kg (86 lb) — roughly the size of a pizza box.

What sets Dark Matter apart is its “raxial flux” architecture — a hybrid design that blends axial and radial magnetic flux characteristics. This 6-phase raxial configuration aims to combine the high torque density typical of axial motors with the high power density of radial designs, resulting in smoother torque delivery and improved efficiency in a smaller package.

Measuring about 383 mm in diameter and 135 mm thick, Dark Matter’s compact form factor makes it ideal for high-performance hybrids like the Gemera, where packaging efficiency and mass reduction are crucial. Paired with Koenigsegg’s advanced transmission systems, this motor helps push combined outputs well beyond traditional boundaries — a clear sign that electric propulsion is now a central pillar of cutting-edge automotive engineering.
