1000 miles range solid state batteries are here
Dongfeng Motor is advancing its solid-state battery technology with plans to mass-produce 350 Wh/kg packs by September 2026, enabling over 1,000 km (620+ miles) of range. The company has initiated winter testing on a fleet of vehicles in extreme cold conditions (-30°C to -40°C), reporting 72% energy retention and enhanced safety.
Key Details on Dongfeng Solid-State Battery Development:
- Performance & Range: The new 350 Wh/kg solid-state batteries allow for a range exceeding 1,000 km on a single charge.
- Cold Weather Performance: Tests in China’s Mohe region showed the batteries retain 72% of their energy at -30°C.
- Production Timeline: A 0.2 GWh pilot line is already operational, with mass production scheduled for September 2026. However, some reports indicate a potential shift to full mass production by December 2027.
- Safety & Technology: The cells have passed 170°C heat box tests and utilize a cell-to-pack (CTP) architecture. They feature a fully self-controlled supply chain for electrolytes and separators.
- Future Tech: Dongfeng is researching future, higher-density batteries, aiming for 400 Wh/kg and 500 Wh/kg variants.
These advancements, highlighted at the 2025 World Power Battery Conference, place Dongfeng at the forefront of the Chinese NEV market, alongside companies like SAIC, GAC, and BYD, which are all targeting similar technology deployment by 2026–2030.
